Tips:

CELPIP Speaking Task 5 is called “Compare and Persuade”. Both of these are done at the same time.

This question is different from task 1 “giving advice”. In task 5, you’re trying to persuade your friend to agree with your choice. In both questions, your language should be polite.

Remember, you’re not comparing the first two pictures you see. Sometimes the third picture is a bit crazy, so you should be ready to make some interesting comparisons.

Vocabulary:

Sea-doo (jet ski)
Dock (wooden platform beside water)
Off-roading (driving on unpaved roads)
4 x 4 (pronounced four by four)

Sample Answer

Hey guys,

I’m so happy we can buy a new vehicle this summer! I know you’re suggesting getting a boat, but I think it would be better if we bought the jeep. Our family has always loved off-roading. If we had a 4×4, think of all the cool places we could go! We could go on so many awesome trips in the mountains. celpipmaterial.com

I know the boat can carry more people, but it doesn’t really matter because our family only has four people anyway. So the jeep is perfect for us! Another reason why I think we should get the jeep over the boat is because it’s a fraction of the cost. We could spend that extra $40,000 on a sea-doo! I know you guys really like fishing, but we can just fish from the dock. I think going on adventures in the jeep would be way cooler than just sitting in a boat. Anyway, that’s my two cents. I hope you guys agree! CELPIP Material.com
