Tips:
CELPIP Speaking Task 5 is called “Compare and Persuade”. Both of these are done at the same time.
In North American English we use the word “game” instead of “match” to talk about most sports. For example,
Soccer game Football game Baseball game Hockey game
But with boxing, we use “match”.
In some of my answers in this book, you’ll see that I use rhetorical questions. A rhetorical question is a question where you’re not asking for an answer. The answer is obvious. The following question is an example of a rhetorical question that doesn’t need an answer.
“Do you really want to stand for one and a half hours?”
Vocabulary:
Have a blast (have fun)
Bucks (dollars)

Hey guys,
I know you’re suggesting we go to the soccer game, but I think the baseball game would be more fun. Do you really want to stand for one and a half hours? I would way rather have some seats! Plus, at the baseball game, we would get a free hotdog. I like hotdogs more than pizza. I know the baseball game is more expensive, but it’s only 10 bucks more and we get an extra hour of enjoyment! We want to have a relaxing evening together, so the longer the better! Also, I know the seats are in the last row, but with baseball, it’s actually nice to get a big perspective of everything.
One time I went to a baseball game with my dad and we had front row seats. It was a bit overrated. Anyway, that’s why I think the baseball game would be better. I know we’ll have a blast!
